Setting aside blocks of time each day to get the day-to-day stuff done and blocks of time each week for content and product creation has worked really well for me. As a business owner, mom, wife – things can get hectic. In my business alone I provide a service for my clients FIRST. They are my priority. Second, I create content + products for myself and others who are interested in creating a Virtual Assistant business like mine (SIGN UP HERE to get on the wait list- we launch in June!). If you have ever like your tasks are taking over your days and you do now have control of your time, you should try block scheduling.

Simply? Um. Everything has a place. Yea.. if you are NOT a rule follower you might have a problem with this but it is really basic. You take EVERYTHING you need to do & drop it in a calendar square. If it is not in there… it doesn’t happen!

That basic.

…Umm. Amy.. Nothing is Ever that basic.

I know.. I know. You have to plan for a few thing’s to come up throughout the week. I always schedule a buffer time for “clean up” or “emergency” time where I can go back and deal with whatever went wrong earlier. Still, I have that time planned and it works!

The simplest way to get started is to make a list of all the things you need to do in one week. Plan to spend at least 20 minutes on a “brain dump” of everything that comes your way – it is amazing the things that you forget but will pop into your mind. We tend to just “take care of things” as they pop up, but these little tasks actually decrease our productivity. By time blocking, you are forcing yourself to say NO to this action and put everything into its respectable location.

Where will you keep your calendar? Are you digital? Paper? A hybrid? I consider myself hybrid. I love my Google Calendar for time blocking because I can access it anywhere and easily adjust it on the fly. I use a paper calendar for jotting down appointments and everything is. If you are a paper planner for everything I have heard THIS planner is awesome + affordable compared to some of other ones out there (under $30!).

Whatever you choose – try it for ONE week without giving up… you need that much time just to see a difference, just me.

Then please – let me know how it goes! I would love to hear!
