This weekend @xlnoggin asked me for a photo of me This weekend @xlnoggin asked me for a photo of me with both kids.

… I scrolled wayyyyy too long to find one. Like… my thumb started to hurt long…. And, my first thought was annoyance. At myself (bc yea, I stopped taking photos when I started gaining weight… and then again when I started growing out the gray).

I got mad next. Because wow.. here I am thinking the thoughts I spend all day trying to not teach the beautiful girl on my left.. especially after seeing her come home from school crushed with another girl who hurt her deeply with words… all about physical appearance. And if I can’t talk to myself the way I want McKinley to talk to her 8-year-old self… what a hypocrite.

Next came sadness, bc I realized how much that dude on the left just isn’t in camera moments. Partly because he is a boy and 11… but also partly because I don’t make it a priority to ask. He volleys between extremes, as an extrovert and a loner and that is hard to match and even harder to keep up with. But every time I do, I get a smile or a unique photo that just is Wyatt.

Then I was irritated because - duh. Pictures of me and the kids? That should be Jimmy’s job, not mine!

But really- it isn’t. It isn’t how his mind works. It isn’t how he uses his phone. And I have ever asked. And why should I expect him to do something he doesn’t expect of himself if I can’t even ask.

So we took an imperfectly perfect photo yesterday. I picked it all apart in my head and then fell completely in love with how each kid shines through.

Here is my reminder to show up for me, and maybe a gentle reminder for you to show up for yourself today, whatever way that is. 💛
WHO.IS.READY.FOR.SUMMER!? 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ I know I definitely am.

WE may be ready......but the question we need to be asking ourselves as service-based business owners is, "Is my business ready?" 🤔

As excited as many of us get about summer, we need to put plans into place and ask ourselves some serious questions to prepare our businesses for the potential “Summer Slump,” or on the flip side, to get ready for a season of growth and focus. Which are you planning for this summer? If you aren’t sure, you need to listen to this episode!

I’m sharing my thoughts and personal tips to figure everything out. Once you’ve come up with a plan, let me know what you're thinking. Are you going into a season of rest? Or will you be working through some serious summer goals? Let me know in the comments, or shoot me a DM. I'd love to hear from you!

It can be difficult to find new clients that are a It can be difficult to find new clients that are a perfect match for you as a service provider. We are not all meant to work with every single person we encounter, and some people just aren’t a good fit. 🙅🏻‍♀️

In today's podcast episode, I’m sharing my top three red flags that can come up when meeting with potential clients. It’s the kind of information I wish I had when I was navigating my way through the early days of my service-based business. 🚩🚩🚩

Working with people that don't align with your business in more ways than just literally providing money for services rendered is not fun and we shouldn't have to do it. These tips will help you find the right people that will value you and help you grow while you're doing the same for them!

Listen and then let me know what you think. Which flag have you seen most often when meeting with potential clients? Do you have a hard time determining if someone will be a good fit? I want to hear from you! 🙋🏻‍♀️

🤦🏻‍♀️ I can't be the only one right? P 🤦🏻‍♀️ I can't be the only one right? Playing that awesome back and forth game of... "If I can just figure out the exact thing SHE is doing... then I will have the success she has!"

Nah... not so much. Finally figuring out that the system I need in my business is unique to me and the strategy that works for my scaling and growth will never be *exactly* the same as someone else was pretty damn freeing.

Sure, there are tips and tricks that we all use, but if the foundation is built on someone else's vision, no template will create your success. We all have to put in the work. 🥂

Has this ever happened to you in your service-base Has this ever happened to you in your service-based business? Duh--I know it has. It happens to all of us, and it is frustrating. 😣

What is the answer? HOW do we get our clients to understand that when the day is done, their request will just have to wait until the next business day? A simple answer: boundaries. 🙅🏻‍♀️

To have a successful service-based business, you have to set boundaries, communicate them, and politely enforce them in order for your client to understand that you really mean it. Asking for "one more thing" at or past your set end time for the day just isn't going to work. It may seem shocking to the client, but you have a life, too! 😱

Is this something you struggle with? Listen to my podcast episode about it for my tips on how to take care of this important part of your business at amylockrin.com/episode2. I'm here to help! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Last night I watched my son step out of his comfor Last night I watched my son step out of his comfort zone and try something new.

He joined the debate team last week. A team that started 2 weeks late, because they didn't have a coach. A team where he is the only boy and only 6th grader. Heads up for non-middle school parents:: that is NOT a positive here, lol.

He tried it because we told him it might be something he likes. He loves improv, stand up comedy, acting and just being on stage in general.

… Clearly, Jimmy and I know little about debate 😂

Do you know what is not a fit for our outgoing, chatty, albeit sometimes spacey child? Debate.

But - he did it. He was excited to have the role of timekeeper. He encouraged his team. He laughed with the coach and had a big smile on [under the mask] leading up to the start of the meet.

Halfway through bored took over and he walked his butt down off the stage to grab a book. You could hear a pin drop in this auditorium and the kid gave zero F’s.

Any break? He read the book.
Time to hit the buzzer? He clicked that thing with passion.
Someone going over? He authoritatively yelled “time” which was slightly startling for the quiet, so very quiet auditorium.

He rocked it - even though this isn’t his jam. He gave it the “full Wyatt” till the end.

It made me think about how much easier starting and scaling a business could be if we all just gave it a “full Wyatt.”

I cannot tell you how many things I have held back on, spent hours worrying over because it wasn’t a perfect fit for me. Now I look back and spend time on the “what if?” of it all.

What a waste right? This kid, age 11… modeled exactly the behavior we need to get past the mindset blocks and struggles that are guaranteed to come up when you start a business.

Cont’d in comments..
Does the thought of having to fire a client make y Does the thought of having to fire a client make you cringe and go into a cold sweat? 😬😰

You may have already done a gut-check and realized it's time to part ways with someone, but you haven't done it because you don't know how....or you're just too scared.

Whether you're on the brink of firing a client or not, today's episode is for you. As service providers, we never want to think that we’ll have to fire a client, but unfortunately, we sometimes do.

Listen to today's episode and get ready to amicably let go of the client that no longer aligns with your business goals. If you're not in this situation yet, you can prepare for when the time comes in your business. Either way, I'm here for you! 🙋🏻‍♀️
